tail light assemblies

Post by oldhalftons »

does anyone have a pic of what the taillight assembly (not the lense) should look like.

when the previous owner repainted the truck, it looks like he just pulled the lenses off and sprayed the truck. I'm starting to think that the reason the rear lights are as dim as they are because of the maroon paint on the relector (is there a chrome reflector inside the 67-72 taillights? )

A trick I learned from a (gasp) Chevy group is if you want to brighten up your dash lights or tail lights is to go and buy a can of chrome bumper paint. Not just silver paint and then paint the surface of the assembly.

What this does is cause the light to better reflect instead of simply getting "sucked up" by the assembly.

If I get a chance I will try and find the web site that was talking about it.

I carefully smoothed heavy-duty aluminum foil, shiny side out inside the lamp assy. Works really good.
I love the smell of an old truck in the morning.

A wire wheel on an electric drill shouls really brighten them up, too.
