Well, in spite of the underwhelming (i.e. total lack of) response to my thread I bought the tilt column from Hot Rods Worldwide (actually comes from a company called C J 's) and it seems to look like it's a direct replacement, though it does have GM coded wiring (doesn't everything?), so I'll be the forum guinea pig for an aftermarket column. If it works I'll post a pic or three. Dave at HRW talked me into a bitchin steering wheel that he just happened to have also.

Ditto....you know what they say..."It's better to keep your mouth closed and have everyone think you're a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt".

I have absolutely NO experience or knowledge of aftermarket columns, so I'll definitely be watching for any info from you. Actually, I'd be interested in "a pic or three" even if it DOESN'T work. Do they have a website which lists the column you got?

Wellll!!!! It seems Murphys Law, works again. CJ's swear it's a direct bolt in for 67-72 Ford, but so far - wiring is, of course GM, but the bracket that fastens column to bottom of dash that on a stock column is spot welded, on this aftermarket one is screw on, and if we matched the holes up from column side to dash side then the column would be too short to attach to steering box, so it looks like we have to drill some new holes in column, I might get away with just two. Didn't have the digital camera but did take some photos but will be awhile before they'll be developed and I'll get a CD, I'll be gone for Two weeks starting Thurs. Damn Aftermarket!!!

Typical for those Chevy aftermarket guys. They probably didn't know Ford used 3 different lengths of steering column from 67-72, just measured one and thought they were all the same.

So what length steering column did you end up getting?

I have to admit that I don't know the length. I bought what I thought was a bolt in for 67-72 F100. It seems to be a little shorter.
