69 body to 70s frame...

will a 69 f250 body fit on a 70-79 4x4 frame?
i.e. if i got a 74 highboy frame could i slap a 69 body on it?

From what I've read, it will fit. However, there are some frame differences in that the frame on a 73-79 is a couple inches longer than 65-72's.

There's a site on 61-66 ford trucks, slicks or slick sixties, something like that. They talk about this sort of thing quite abit. over there.

The '69 body will bolt right on (no mods necessary) to trucks up through '72. With a few minor exceptions, the '73-'79 trucks frames were the same on the front half (so the cab and front clip bolt right up) but the rear half of the frame was 4" wider, which simply means you'd have to drill new bed mounting holes. Those frames were also a bit longer, meaning that if you center the rear wheelwells over the rear tires, the gap between the cab and box is going to be a little wider.

There ARE a few exceptions to this rule though...the '73 thru '77-1/2 F250 4WD frames were still narrow in the back, so the box should bolt right up, but the frame is still longer, so the cab-to-box gap will still be increased with the box centered over the rear tires.
