Intake question(FE)

Anyone here using the Edelbrock Streetmaster intake? If so, how do you like it? I scored one at the wrecking yard recently and want to use it on my '71 F250 390. Thank You in advance.

Give it a try!!!! I have the Holley intake like that (Street Dominator). If you have headers, bigger then a stock cam and a decent carb on it, give it a shot! They work better then what most people think........JMHO

Yes it is. Check out Fordfe.com for the Dyno test. Quite a few members use them on there trucks and heavy cars. They like them and use them for street use all the time. Its street friendly.....Believe it or not LOL.

The Holley is the same way!

Yes its a single plane intake. I think they where made in the 70's (maybe early 80's) and have a small plenum to them.

I bought one of those in the 80's for my 67 390 Mustang. I was running a 650 Holley carb, factory 427 solid lifter cam, dual-point dist, etc. I saw a very noticable loss of low-end grunt. The Streetmaster quits at about 4500 rpm's. I eventually wound up going back to the stock cast iron intake. I certainly wouldn't run a Streetmaster in a heavy vehicle, such as a truck. On the dyno the Streetmaster performs pretty good but in a heavy truck I see no advantage. I would be more apt to run a dual-plane RPM intake in a heavy truck.

I use to run an F-427 intake with a 2" spacer on it. That worked well.

I do believe that Ross (My427Stang) Runs a street master on his old Ford 4x4 with a lift. I see if I can find a link to his set-up!

Here is a link to his truck with that intake on it! Ask him how he likes the intake. I know its a Holley but I think the Ed street master is close to the same.....

i had one on my old motor, seemed to be fine. of course my truck is 2wd and a shortbed. it seemed to run ok up to 5500. but i have a heavy foot

I used a Torker for FE and when Edelbrock dropped it they had the Street Master as a replacement and the performance difference was nil. The Torker with 780 Holley Crower Baja Torque Master cam, Hooker Tuned Headers 8.25 to 1 compression, Accel dual point dizzy, 3.78 to 1 9 inch locker and with a car Top Loader 4 produced a 68 SWB 140 mph truck. It had so much low end torque that it felt like I punched it when I let the clutch out at an idle towing a 53 Dodge panel wagon home for a friend.

Small Plenums on straight runners has been the hallmark of the Low end torque manifold for Edelbrock's Torker line for years. Long Straight runners with large plenums will kill the low end. So Torkers and Street Masters are not High manifolds with long runners but lower manifolds with Shorter runners.
