Dumb timing question

When setting the timing, the vacuum line is plugged, right. But does the nipple it goes on need to be plugged too? Just a thought I had today I didn't recall seeing mentioned anywhere.

plug the hose, it is not necessary to plug the fitting on the distributor, although you dont want any crap getting in there.

That's what I've always done. Just one of those dumb things that crossed my mind.
