Hotrodders found out that when they put the muffs. on their hotrods the sound was "just right". Not too loud like fried Cherry Bombs (the insulation burns out rather quickly in them) and not too quiet as the stock muffs. were. It didn't take long for the aftermarket to pick up on the new "craze" to make a buck. No self respecting muffler/exhaust co. in the USA would be caught dead without a "turbo" or "super turbo" (whatever that is? :hmm: ) muffler in their lineup. Could be urban legand, could be truth. I think I got this one pegged though! :D
I think you have it pegged too, I remember in the mags the first turbo mufflers were coming right over the counter at chevy. Nowdays they are about the least expensive and do have a nice tone.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

ON my wife's El Co I have 3" mandrel bent duals with an x-pipe. Had hooker Aero Chamber Mufflers on it, Drove it around, slayed the local mustang contingent with our 2.73 rear gears!, but the cops came every time I pulled in the driveway. It was too loud with the old circle track small block under the hood. Cut off the Aero Chambers (Which are my absolute favorite street mufflers BTW), installed 27" Dynomax Super Turbo Mufflers, fired it up, much quieter, drove it around, got a few more mustang kills......no noticeable difference according to the Butt Dyno or the contingent of Angry local Fox Body Owners! Made so much power I broke the Stupid 12 bolt rear end today.......time to insert the 9"!

Don't flame me about mustang kills, I love mustangs, especially fox bodies, its just most of the fox body owners around here are quite a bit more riceboy-ish than in other Locales!
