new fe fuel pumps

Post by fordman »

those newer fe fuel pumps that have the band around the center of them where the bolts use to go. has anyone cut that bamd off to see how it was held together? or iiis that band some sort of no tamper device that they are starting to put on the fuel pumps so it only looks like it cant be rebuilt? im just curious on whats behind that band. i think its a no tamper device. does anyone know?

The band is what holds it together. There is nothing else. If you cut the band off you will not be able to do anything with it. There are no holes for screws or anything else. You have to have the equipment to install a new band as well as a source for bands to rebuild these type of pumps. The band is simply crimped over on both sides with rollers to lock the two halves together. Hawkrod

thanks hawkrod. i figured that was the way it was. dragon i have two of them here. one is new and the other is non working used. the used one will suck fuel but wont push fuel. so the pusher one way valve must have poped out of its place or its bad. i think i am going to cut the band off any way just for fun.

FE pumps look to be in the $50 to$60 range. My kit for the 240 pump cost about $30.
FE pumps are $25. I bought 2 this year for my trucks.

I only checked one place (Advance Auto) and they were in the $45 to $60 range there. Were you able to get a pump with the canister filter for $25? Where?

Last one I bought, they had superseded the truck one with the filter canister to the car one without.
I would hang onto the rebuildable kind if there are kits. There isn't much inside really, a diaphragm and a couple check valves.

Anyhow, whether you can get one for $25 or $50 -- either way, it would be less hassle and clutter than hanging another filter canister somewhere on the frame rail.

I am going the other way. 2 electric fuel pumps and 2 filters before the tank switch valve and one before the carb.

I don't think this is cluttered at all.
