re: My 72 Sport Custom F100 (updae 8-09-08)
Just figure that the compression ratio for a 460 in a Lincoln in 1975 was probably between low and crap.

Crank, pistons, new rings, new cam, new bearings installed over the weekend.
The cam I picked out is a Crane Cam # 354551.
522 intake lift with 288 duration
530 exhaust lift with 292 duration
Im hoping this cam will have some lope at idle.
Will be coating the cylinders down with Lubriplate cause it looks like I have to stall this project for a while.

re: My 72 Sport Custom F100 (updae 8-21-08)
Ok:
1. You ordered stock size pistons?
2. Did you check the taper on the bore?
3. What pistons did you buy?
4. What compression ratio will you end up with? Those D3's have big chambers....ask me how I know.
5. What will you do to your D3 heads to allow that high of a lift?
6. What intake are you using?
7. Have you ported heads before?
I'm not giving you a hard time at all. Just trying to make sure you end up with what you want.

1. Used the stock ones. Long storydablack00 wrote:Ok:

2. Took one of the new rings and checked end gap at different points in the cylinder.
4. Stock
5. Going with the valve springs that Crane recommends.
6. Edelbrock Performer RPM or a Weiand Stealth, with a Holly 750 cfm carb
7. No I haven't, tho I have a 2nd pair of D3's layin around.
No problems man, Im just learning as I have been going here. First time building a engine for performance, much less a 460.

Nodular center section, larger diameter backing plate studs, no taper on the end of the axle housing near the backing plate flange, the shape of the flange where the backing plate bolts (not rounded on the bottom). Also, most 28 spline axles do not have the two dots in the end of the axle flange and I've never seen a nodular center section with 28 spline axles.crazyhorse wrote:BobbyFord wrote:...big bearing, 31 spline, too.[/quote] how can you tell if it is a 31 spline just by looking at the rear end & not pulling the axles ? just wanted to know before i go to the junk yard. thanksBobbyFord wrote:That "crusty old 9" has a nodular pumpkin...

re: My 72 Sport Custom F100 (updae)
So Monday I got the other engine block back from the machine shop. So far I havent been able to sell it.
Its bored out enough that I could build a 521 stroker.
I wish I had a job now....
Stay tuned....

Today (Saturday) I received power steering brackets and a pulley from Hawkrod. Will be prepping all the brackets and pulleys for paint tomorrow.
