fordman, that one is close but not the one. Here is the link to the right one that NAPA lists but doesn't have in stock. It gives the size wich is 6X6X2 and has the tubes coming strait out like in the picture.

http://www.napaonline.com/masterpages/N ... eater+Core

I had to have a new one for mine due to the shape the old one was in, it was falling apart at the touch. One of the tubes came off in the rubber heater hose. So I had no chance for a recore. All the sorces I check did not make one anymore, and believe me I check a lot of places to see if anyone still made them before I had to move on to modifing the box. I am hopping beyond all hope that you can find one for him, that way the rest of the folks doing that will have a sorce to get them from. If no one else says it, thankyou for looking for us.

Fordman a part number from reddy rad is 399038 i'll have to ask for a 4 seasons part number . Hope it helps .

I made my own this afternoon. I went to the local parts store, got a std core, cut the tubes off of it and with a dremel tool and my ole plumbing skills made a perfect fit !!

Fordman, please understand, I might be new to the forum, but I have seen others list something in a post and seen the stuff get snapped up and the person that listed it almost wound up with none.

I happened to call National Parts Depot, in Ocala, after I tried Napa and I was told the cores were obsolete. National Parts Depot told me they had one on order and they had 4 in stock in Ocala, one in North Carolina and I believe they said they had two in Michigan.

I went there, because the 1969 Ranger I have has the heater core hoses disconnected, probably meaning the core is bad. Since I also need one for the Ranger I decided to stop there on the way home to look at one of their heater cores. If they are obsolete I am definitely going to see if I can find one for myself while I am looking for someone else. One of the 4 heater cores NPD Ocala had was bent (the whole core was curved and the tubes were bent). The others were okay, because they brought all of the others up as well.

I was giving rangerxlt72 the first option at the remaining core at NPD because he asked for one. I did nothing different for him then I would have done for anyone that was in the same situation, looking for any other part I might get lucky enough to find.

I was waiting to hear something back from him on his experiment with making the core for himself before I came on here and let the cat out of the bag. Fair is fair and I would hope someone would think the same of something I was needing if the shoe was on the other foot, as it is said.

Now, for the pictures....

i thought everyone was getting them out of another truck or something is why i wanted to know. i could have looked up the other truck and found a source plentyful for eveyone. i was very bured out last night when i posted that first comment. i got a quick nap and then woke up wide awake. only to have nothing to do so i searhced until about 2:30 this morning and found nothing but numbers. so if npd has them then they can be found elsewhere. it is just being able to find the source. thank you for your help with this. i put a new core in mine some 20 years ago. so i dont need one. i just thaught it strange that no one was finding them.

The thing about Napa saying they are obsolete, not being able to find them at any other parts store and the label on this box that shows the ProLiance name means that Modine (which merged or was bought out by ProLiance) is the company that no longer makes them.

I used to always try to get my radiators and heater cores from Modine because I was told years ago that they make (or made) a lot of OEM radiators for Ford. I tried calling the local ProLiance supply house here in Ocala and their telephone number has been disconnected. I tried to call them before I called NPD.

If anyone needs one and doesn't want to make their own I would seriously suggest drying the market up by getting them from National Parts Depot while you can.

If National Parts Depot ever gets the ordered one in they will have one more.

On another note, did you know that brass/copper radiators are being obsoleted too? I was told this by an employee in the ProLiance supply house when I got my last radiator there. I saw my first plastic tank aluminum core Bump radiator in a 1972 302 automatic trans Sport Custom that is for sale here in Ocala for $1,000.00.

Con: plastic is junk! Might as well own a rice-burner!

Pro: I've patched these same plastic radiators with Jb-Weld before!

The problem is when the tanks and cores seperate at the seals. I have a friend that had gone through two of them in a 1994 XLT Extended Cab 4x4 Ranger doing some off-roading with the truck. I helped him buy the first one and the second fell under the warranty period and was replaced at no charge.

yea the new ones are junk. it is something about not grounding the 93-96 cores that helps them screw up.

That is good to know, about the grounding that is. If I ever wind up having to put one of those new style radiators in any of my old vehicles I will remember to tie a small ground wire to the aluminum portion of the core at one of the shroud bolts to try to keep that from happening.
