HVAC Compressor

Post by HurleyInt824 »

Can a R12 stock compressor be converted to the R134A ac. or do I need to find a new 134A compressor that will fit a 360 engine?

Does anyone know where I could find a 134A compressor for that engine in case if I need one??

Damn, I really have to see if I can find all those A/C notes I made while researching this very thing last fall. I know this question came up several times in various forums that I was looking through, and IIRC the York compressors can handle 134A just fine, as long as it's in good shape and you flush it out well.

I'll make a point to do some looking tonight for those notes and report back.

Yes, you can use that compressor. But....You may not be
overly thrilled with the results...Depends on the size of
your condensor, and the head pressure you end up with..
In your case, I think I would try some of that "freezezone"
that is on this site..
http://www.heco.net/freezone.html
At first when I saw that link, I thought, hummm, probably
another propane mix... But after reading their site,
it looks to be ok stuff..."I do A/C work, and am fairly up
on refrigerents..."
I think I would prefer to try that stuff, rather than retrofit
for 134a. I really think it would work better, and have less
problems in the long run...The good thing about the freeze
zone stuff, is you don't have to flush, change oil, etc, etc.
Just charge it and go....No fractionation problems either,
"mixing of blends" if you just need to top it off...MK
