tying into headlight wire

I can't quite tell, is the headlight switch wire blue/red stripe?

I wanted to go ahead and get my tach light hooked up.

Also, do I actually have to cut the wire or can I just pull back a slice of insulation and loop it around and then tape it?

dash lights are blue wire. no dont cut it use a butterfly clip. it folds in half and holds both wires without cutting or stripping the wires.

This is the style of connector Fordman is talking about. "Quick Spice"


I also like using the "T-Tap" connector it looks like this and then you use a male spade connector to plug into it. Makes it easy to unplug something...

Very seldom do I use the word...
But, I "hate" those things!
I've had more electrical gremlins due to them.
Silver solder with heat shrink for me!

What I do is I go to a donor vehicle in a wrecking yard and pull a male and two female connectors from the same colored wire in that donor vehicle. I solder the male to the female connector leaving a long tail to connect the second female connector onto. I add the second female connector to the long end by soldering it into place. I heat-shrink my soldered splices. I then plug the add-a-harness home-made creation into my existing harness and do my add-on item from the new female connector (the second one).

I added a 1980 - 1986 Ford pickup clock to the underside of the dash in my '68 F100 and used this same method to install it.
