67 grill to 72 Swap

Post by MAK »

I had a couple free hours this afternoon and decided to make a quick run at swapping a nice aluminum 67 grill on to my 72. Aside from the obligatory cuts and blood it went pretty well. I don't have everything snugged back down yet because it's going to take more work drilling some new holes if I decide tio leave it on. I don't have any nice headlight buckets yet and haven't figured out how to get to most of those bolts that I could easily reach through the large openings on the 72's grill.
Anyway, finally to my question: The headlights hooked right up and function with the same style connectors. The parking lights/turn signals also hook-up via 2 wires to a single connector. However, there is an extra single wire with connector coming from each light and I don't know what it is supposed to attach to. The original parking lights/turn signals don't have this extra wire. The right signal doesn't come on at all which I assume is a dead bulb. The left light comes on when I flip the turn signal but doesn't blink.
Anyone done this swap or have any ideas? Thanks for the help.

I was sort of thinking groud but I guess I'm used to the ones with a washer style connector that a screw goes through to hold it to the frame. This is a round push-in style connector and there is nowhere to connect it that I noticed. Will have to look again. Either way will be easy enough to modify it to attach somewhere. Thanks for the help and schematic link.

Yep, that round connector is (A) on the schematic... It shares the same connection as the headlights for ground...
Glad to help. You'll have to post some pics of the new grill installed :)

Mak, I seem to have the same problem with the ungrounded male plug, did grounding this resolve any of your other light problems? Thanks

I have been getting home too late this week to work on finding a place to hook the grounds or get any pictures. Hopefully by this weekend....
