Turn SignalCanceller
The turn signal canceller in my 1971 F-100 has been out for years...I've just always flicked the signal lever manually. Now when I'm thinking about restoring my truck, it would be nice to finally fix this. What is involved?

re: Turn SignalCanceller
When I replaced the one on my '68, this is how I did it:
Unplug the electrical connectors at the botom of the column.
Draw a diagram showing where each color of wire plugs into the connector. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP!!!
Insert a small thin screwdriver into the back of each hole in the connector to 'unlock' the wire from the connector.
Fasten a piece of strong cord to the wires.
Pull the steering wheel and unfasten the swith from the column.
Slowly pull the wires and cord up through the column.
Unfasten the wires from the cord and fasten the wires from the new switch to the cord.
Slowly pull the cord and wires back down the column.
Replace the wires into the electrical connector paying close attention to the diagram you drew earlier. (You DID draw one, right?)
Fasten the switch in the steering column and replace the wheel.
Check lights for proper operation.
It took me about a half hour and I was in no hurry.

re: Turn SignalCanceller
If you are replacing just the cancelor you should still unplug the connector and slid the switch up bercause the cancelor only has little stub wires you will need to solder onto the old ones. I have used the little red butt splice connecters but there isn't much room in there for them.
Before you pull the switch loose you should get the little palnut off the povit. That holds everything together. Be prepared to mangle the old camcelor before that little nut breaks. I just bought one this morning but never quite got to it today.

Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.
