I-beam part numbers
Just a tidbit of worthless trivia. I was under the 72 F-100 and noticed the part number on the I-beam was a D2. Kind of odd that they changed it from earlier years. Then I was under my 69 F-250 and the number on those is a C9. Same thing, why different than a 68?? Did they change them every year or something.

I don't know about the big differences between the earlier axles but the D2's like yours started in '71 (I forget the serial # break) and they are different along with all of the steering components. Will attach the service bulletin when I find it at home.

Interesting. But I have to wonder how many of those parts interchange. I know I have mixed and matched the pitman arms and couldn't see any difference.

I've heard of folks having problems with the drag link.
I think we ought to have Keith compare every part of every year.

Hey, you supply the trucks, and I'll be happy to do that. Of course, when I'm done the trucks will be completely disassembled, so you probably wouldn't want them back!68F250 wrote:...I think we ought to have Keith compare every part of every year.
Here's a related printing from a service bulletin:
