Lmc light harness

Post by gonzalo medina »

Is anyone running one of these? I am interested in buying one to upgrade to brighter lights. There 40 bucks which is reasonable considering the bolbs are 30 dollars each.

I'd have to see the LMC parts to answer the question but wire harnesses will only improve lighting if you have bad grounds. The wattage of a stock headlight is 55 watts. Unless the wattage is higher (like 100 watts) you will not see a difference. Good high wattage lights are $150 to $200 with a transformer, and you still have to replace the sealed beam headlight with a headlight body that will accept the new style bulbs. About $25 each side.

Link to the harness you are talking about. I am guessing you are talking about the headlight harness that has the relays and pulls power directly from the battery, and uses the signal from the headlight switch only to activate the relay? If so then that harness is an upgrade. It is less taxing on your old wires as the juice from your headlights no longer is supplied by your headlight switch. As a result, your lights will be a little brighter due to them being supplied directly from the battery with no others draws in the circuit, and they also will not flicker when other draws activate like they do now (blinkers, wipers, etc...).

I bought the harness and it works very well. Easy to install. I replaced the yellow protective plastic and used wire harness tape so it looks like it belongs to the truck. The only thing I wonder about is the relays if there is a problen getting another one. I soppose I could just upgrade to bosch style.

 Makes you wonder why they ever chose yellow in the first place.

For hard to find replacement relays you could try one of the electronics parts sites like Digikey (http://www.digikey.com). They literally have thousands of relays, including 12 volt automotive relays, in odd shapes and sizes. :)
