In my 98 F150 I still have the orginal battery that came in the truck, oh 8 years old and just hit 100K this past week, starting to worry me it lasted so long, LOL.... I've had good luck with Durlast before and I have had bad luck with Napa batteries.

My '96 F250 still has the original battery. 10+ years, only around 70,000 miles. Sometimes the truck dosen't run for week or two, still starts fine in all weather. I started to be concerned a few years ago. I've got cables......

heres the rundown on optimas, if it hasnt been said already.trukcrazy wrote:It seems the Optima batteries are gaining in popularity. I don't know anything about them myself though. I have had good luck with the Walmart batteries.
people think yellow tops are superior cranking batteries, they are not. yellow tops are great accessories batteries, extra stereo, for your power winch, things like that.
red tops are cranking batteries, higher cranking amps than the yellow top
blue tops, marine batteries, they work in cars, but why?
orange top (yes they were/are made) the posts are reversed for right hand drive cars/trucks.

re: Recommendations for a battery
I have run nothing but Interstate batteries for years and on my diesels they take a beating. With that said when my son and I went to pick up his 67 when we first purchased it, the battery was dead that was on it and it wouldn't jump start. Went to Walmart on that Suday morning in Witchita Falls, Texas and purchased a wally world battery. Close to two years and its never given any problem. Sitting while the new engine was being built or starting it every day for 5 miles or less it just keeps going. Now its still going with my 16 year old cranking it who knows how many times a day at over 100 degrees. I have only topped it off with distilled water 1 time.

re: Recommendations for a battery
double the ci of the engine and thats the minimum cold cranking amps I recommend. also it should give you ample reserve capacity

I have a 750 CCA Red Top Optima in my 88 Bronco. By far the best battery I've ever owned. I've left the electric fan on by accident for two hours before and it cranked right up. Always cranks no matter what.
